The Long Walk by Brian Castner
Air Force Captain Brian Castner served multiple deployments in Iraq and Afghanistan. He lead a bomb disposal team that disarmed I.E.D.s. With personal honesty and insight this memoir relates the experiences of deployment, his struggle dealing with PTSD, and re-entry into civilian life. This is an honest account of one man’s experience. The author makes a strong contribution toward our understanding of returning veterans. A companion title on this topic is The Yellow Birds by Kevin Powers, a fictional account of a Private in Iraq. I highly recommend both titles.
